★ Character Information ★
Character Name: Ethan Crowne
Character Age: 43
Character Species: Vampire
Current Health: He's good
Outfit: nerd. In the backpack he's carrying are a set of horologist tools, a few comic books, a DSLR camera with an extra memory card, a very, very carefully wrapped Antikythera_mechanism, and a random book about dragons.

Character Canon: Original
Link to History: N/A, see below.

Ethan's world is pretty similar to the one we live in now, but there just so happens to be vampires, wolves, fae, etc. Humans aren't really of their existence, but that isn't surprising. Humans don't see what's under their noses half the time. There are places to find creatures like Ethan if you know where to look, blood clubs and wolf hangouts, but for the most part, they keep their existence pretty low key, not wanting to attract attention to themselves.

Ethan is (was) a normal guy from pretty normal parents; his mother was from New Orleans, father from Brooklyn, but Ethan himself grew up in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. Real home grown boy upbringing, but mercifully not a racist fuck. He's made it to 43 without too much happening in his life; he's a quiet man with simple needs, loves affection and gets easily attached. He's soft and kind and gentle, non-argumentative, a people pleaser.

The important bits are as follows!

Ethan went to an antiques convention about ten months ago, was heading back to his hotel late in the evening. He was mugged and left for dead, brutally injured and bordering on death. He was found by another vampire named Marcus, who claimed he chased Ethan's attacker off and then changed him. He'd trained Ethan hard...probably too hard, but it ensured his (apparently replacement) fledgling didn't fuck up and kill innocent people on accident. Ethan knows it was for his own damn good, and never blamed Marcus for his harshness.

Marcus owned a vampire club called Nox, a place where vampires could come and gather safely. Ethan worked there after his change, though it wasn't his scene at all Unfortunately, Marcus went to the docks one day to pick up a shipment, and simply never came back. Ethan found out later he had been murdered, body mutilated, but had no idea who'd done it.

Ethan obviously cannot know this, but Marcus knew Ethan's attacker. It was a fledgling of Marcus' who'd spiraled out of control. Guilt washed over him when he found Ethan, and, well...

He'd been a good replacement.

Regardless of how it happened or why, Ethan is no longer angry about it, and has accepted his fate. It is what it is, it's done. As a very old and wise dragon once told him, "You're still the same person you always were. You only lose your humanity if you choose to."

Before arriving in FM, he was willed the club. Marcus had left him everything just in case he died (which Ethan suspects was an actual murder, not some similar instance such as his own). Ethan has dedicated himself to taking care of the club and running it sustainably and as honorably as possible, though in his world blood clubs are...um. Not a pretty thing, but absolutely necessary. There are human farms, if you can guess that that means.

Canon Point: After Marcus' death by about a year. He runs the club with the help of his demon bartender, Cerai.

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills:
*Horology (expert)
*Photography (amateur, but good)
*Writing (he writes fanfic. shut up)
*Mixing drinks (forced to learn)
*video games (pleasure)

Canon Abilities: In his world, if you're turned to a vampire, you generally obtain some kind of ability. Not all the time, but normally. It tends to manifest in ways that are already there, so if you're already sort of predisposed to the gift of sight, you'll probably be able to catch glimpses of the future, etc.

Ethan happens to be an empath. He's already a kind, caring, and compassionate person, so when he was changed, his ability manifested into empathy, which basically means he can sense and absorb other people's emotions. He can also control and manipulate the mood of people around him. For example, if he's in a room where there's a lot of anxiety and tension, he can easily absorb that & calm everyone down in order to prevent any incidents or harmful situations.

Also I should note that his venom has the capability to get people ecstasy type high, and make you really horny! This is entirely optional and it can also have 0 effect if you choose to have your character feed him :3

Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Golden eyes that shift with emotions, hideable wings. No halo.
Role Reasoning:

Ethan is a kind person, and does think in the collective, often putting others before himself. He continues running a club he actively dislikes, because he knows it's a necessary evil, because if he doesn't feed New Orleans' vampires, there will be far more deaths than there already are. He is frustrated with these circumstances, but he takes it in stride and tries to make the club the best it can be with what resources he has available. It is a place of safety for humans who are kinky that way and are able to find the place, and vampire – and 'others' (fae, wolves, w/e, all are welcome though he doesn't know why they come) – alike. He works very hard to maintain the clubs safety and integrity, and it is known as one of the undergrounds safest vampire blood clubs in the continental United States.

Despite being a sometimes angsty artist that comes off as an airhead, Ethan is a steadfast, loyal, persevering man. Once a commitment is made, this loyalty will ensure he follows through on his promises. He is utterly devoted to family and friends and those people he cares about, and his affections are deep and unwavering. He's not an angry person, and he is slow to rise to the bait, and dislikes conflict. Ethan doesn't have trust issues, and allows people into his life freely – though this can obviously backfire, and has. But he does not allow that to bring him down, and he continues to try and believe the best in people.

★ Personality ★

Please choose one of the follow options for your personality section. Please clarify which option you have picked and, if option 2, which questions you are answering:

Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

  • Obviously, the attack that resulted in his vampirism is what he considers to be the most traumatic event that has happened to him. He has had to completely redefine his entire life, cutting himself off from old friends in order to keep them from danger. Ethan likes isolated occupations and would be happier focusing on horology or his nature photography, or even history. He doesn't like owning a club – it's far too busy, much too loud, and there are too many people. He runs the place out of loyalty and a devotion to his sire that really isn't deserved. He feels a certain responsibility to the people and vampires of New Orleans, and for the employees that work there. They need to be taken care of as well, and he feels it's his duty to continue on as things were.

He's an empath, so he really struggles in an environment like that. All the emotions exuded in a club environment are overwhelming; he is easily affected by human suffering or sadness, and he often goes home with crippling loneliness and a headache, but again - he puts others before himself, and often suffers greatly as a consequence.

  • Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?

Ethan is stupidly forgiving, it's almost embarrassing. Still, everyone has their limits. While it takes quite a bit to piss Ethan off, once you do, you know it. He doesn't have a temper, exactly, but he makes his frustrations known clearly and concisely. There are very few circumstances in which he'd hold a grudge, and those are if you betray him, hurt his staff/someone in the club (purposefully, accidents can be forgiven once), or if you are simply a malicious, deceitful, asshole.

Ethan may be a little cinnamon roll snowflake, but he's also a vampire who is extremely strong and nearly invulnerable, and he has no qualms about fighting back to defend himself or his people, or throwing you - bodily - the fuck out of his club.

  • If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not?

Frankly, he'd pick not to become a vampire if he had a choice to change his life. Now, he knows it's almost necessary to be powerful to run his club, especially in New Orleans where there are several covens, all vying for power in one way or another. He keeps a low profile in regards to that, choosing to be on his own instead of joining a coven himself, but he knows that at this juncture in his life, what he is is necessary and needed.

Still, if there were a way to go back in time, he would change that one evening. Take an uber home, stay at his friends hotel, something. Anything to avoid what happened, the pain of being eviscerated, almost torn to pieces, and the trauma of being changed into something he never consented to. He doesn't want to die, he was very aware of his own mortality and the fact that he was 43 and unmarried with no progeny, but that didn't translate into a desire to be immortal, or even prolong his life past a normal, human, expiry date.

  • Which Taylor Swift era is your character going through right now and why?

Despite having to run a club he hates and being turned into a freaking vampire, Ethan is actually going through the Lover era. While he isn't going around wearing glitter and pastels, he is working on a positive attitude, constantly reminding himself that his old self isn't dead. Only he can make his choices, and while he had one major choice taken away from him, it's him who decides the rest of his life and what happens from here. No one else.

Taylor writes in Lover's forward that "I've decided that in this life, I want to be defined by the things I love — not the things I hate, the things I'm afraid of, or the things that haunt me in the middle of the night," and that truly speaks to Ethan's personality. While he isn't a fan of his club (in case you haven't figured that out by now), he continues to pursue his interests outside of that lifestyle. He continues working as a horologist in his spare time, taking clients both supernatural and human, fixing watches and antique clocks, spending his off days in his workshop tinkering with his toys. He still writes, still enjoys devouring novels both fiction and non, and has immersed himself in learning how to photograph the night sky.
